Wood is more than just a building or heating material. In SuryaRay Lab I am illuminating the spirit of wood. Each SuryaRay Lamp once belonged to a unique living, breathing and feeling organism that sprung from a single seed and produced precious oxygen that allows our planet to flourish with such exquisite diversity and artistry.
I connect with it and craft it with great respect and gratitude, while each moment of carving, sanding, varnishing and enveloping dives me deeper into understanding nature. It is extremely humbling to be holding a tiny chunk of wood that once towered as a tree way above me and forming it into magnificent new shape and purpose.
Species of SuryaRay Lamps
After more than 50 lamps created, the family of SuryaRay Lamps got is complete form. In order to make your selection easier, I divided them into different species that serve various purposes and placements.
Since the final result cannot be predicted, the whole creation process itself is a dive into the mysterious unknown. That goes against what we've been used to when we usually choose products based on how they look. But this has its special charm - when we plant trees from 10 almost identical seeds, each tree will turn out differently and adapt to the place where it grows. So goes with the lamps. In SuryaRay Lab I embrace diversity and see beauty in every creation. The intention always stays the same.
But I am offering you an option to select your own piece of wood from my wide collection of raw wood. Therefore you can truly start with a seed that fits you.

Mini lamp
/ approximate height 15-30cm
Mini lamps are made to bring a subtle connection to natural materials into smaller spaces. They are also perfect for camper vans or tiny house. The are made from a composite of tiny wooden pieces attached to an olive wood stand, which can also be mounted on the wall.
Veil
wall-mounted light shade
/ approximate height 40-60cm
Handcrafted from a small piece of wood and a bigger shade of rice paper, light shades are designed to be hanged on the wall or ceiling to cover integrated wall lights in your space. They create a memorable and slightly mystical immersive atmosphere within transitional spaces.
Ember
Standalone lamp
/ approximate height 30-60cm
Glowlings are created from smaller, standalone pieces of wood that can rest on a surface or be adapted for wall placement. They remain closest to the original character of the material, allowing the natural form to speak with minimal intervention. Their soft, ambient light introduces a quiet presence into the space, ideal for more intimate corners and subtle atmospheric accents.

In a symbolic ritual process of transmutation, they are given a new life and a new purpose - to illuminate life's path with their ancient wisdom and warm intimate light to anyone who welcomes them into their space.
Reflecting diversity of nature, they lead me to their unique desired shape, creating a gentle embrace of light that turns a room into a sacred space and a house into a temple.
